WOOLZIES was started in 2011 when Kathy, a mother of 5, was frustrated with all the chemicals that were contained in household products – even products that were considered ‘natural.’ Being a woman of action, she decided to address this problem: starting with fabric softener and then moving onto other essential household products.Maid Brigade.comMaid BrigadeToday's podcast was brought to you by Maid Bridgade

Since then, their best-selling product – WOOLZIES All Natural Dryer Balls – has become the #1 wool dryer balls in America. Their full range of WOOLZIES products deliver great results – all without harming your health or the environment.

they continue to be a small family-owned and operated company nestled in the picturesque Hudson Valley region of Southern New York. And more than ever, they are committed to operating a responsible, socially sustainable and environmentally-friendly company.

In my conversation with Kathy we discussed how the Woolzie balls are made and how much work it takes to bring a high quality product to the market. Kathy has just developed a new laundry soap and an entire line of essential oils.  She is giving my listeners 15% off their orders by using the coupon code WOOLZIES15  that you can use in the checkout of her site: www.woolzies.com

You can also see the actual products we talk about in this youtube video I created. Sometimes, its fun to actually SEE what we are talking about! https://youtu.be/5XfWSsbhI9M

This quote says it all when it comes to starting out your day with a super food smoothie - "You don't know how bad you feel until you start feeling good".

You can start feeling better by starting your day with a healthy smoothie. But who has all the right ingredients ready for a smoothie every morning. Well if you subscribe to GreenBlender you'll have everything you need to start your day off with a fresh - healthy smoothie. It's absolute genius!  Getting supper food smoothie ingredients delivered right to your door.

You can look inside the box with me here:

How it works: Each week, you'll get 5 new smoothie recipes and all the pre-portioned ingredients you'll need to make 10 smoothies. Their recipes are hand crafted (by Jenna, the smoothie guru) to ensure they're packed with flavor and nutrients. They only use the best produce and super foods, and focus on working with organic and local farms, to create a uniquely balanced menu.

Jenna tells me all you need is water, ice and a blender. They believe it's important to build a relationship with what you consume. That's why their recipes are more than just a list of ingredients, but a course in micro-biology. As you blend, you'll learn how their carefully crafted smoothies will nourish your body and mind. That's knowledge you can taste.

Jenna says you are what you drink. Their smoothies are packed with essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, proteins and fiber. Their benefits are endless: clearer skin, heightened mental clarity, increased energy, and weight loss. And, their nutrients are known to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease.

Each original recipe yields two 12oz servings. It's the perfect size to share with someone you love. You can find a "smoothie buddy" and share the subscription.

We also talked about getting the right blender. Jenna loves her Vitamix and highly recommends them, but any good quality blender will do the trick.

Note: Did you know that Vitamix sells refurbished units on Amazon? They are backed by a 30 day guarantee and a 5 year warranty! *

Jenna wants you to try some of her recipes for smoothies for free. She gave us 5 recipes to try. You can download them here.  Or you can just send me a text at the number 44222 and text me the message download119 - I'll send you back a link to download them!

Lauren Singer is author of the Zero Waste blog Trash is for Tossers and founder of organic cleaning product company The Simply Co..

An Environmental Studies graduate from NYU and former Sustainability Manager at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, the amount of trash that she has produced over the past four years can fit inside of a 16 oz mason jar.

Through her blog, she has empowered millions of readers to produce less waste by shopping package free, making their own products, and refusing plastic and single use items.

Her work has been profiled by New York Magazine, MSNBC, NBC, AOL, Vogue, CNN, Yahoo, Fox Business, BBC, and NPR amongst others.

In this interview we talk about her TED Talk which you can see here

And we also talk about her YouTube videos which are great instructional videos if you want to DIY and use less trash. Trash is for Tossers - YouTube Videos

Her blog, Trash is for Tossers, gives you lots of things to think about as well as alternatives to some of the things you don’t think you can live without.

After talking with Lauren, I took my stainless steel thermos to Dunkin Donuts and asked if I could get a refill instead of using a disposable cup. Not only did they say yes, but they also gave me a discount. I’ve found that every Dunkin Donut’s franchise will give you a discounted price for refilling! I’ve learned that is actually saves money to save trash!

Lauren also told us about her laundry soap company called The Simply Co.

About a year into blogging, she noticed a trend. Many of her readers were writing to her saying that they loved the idea of her toxic free and sustainable cleaning products, but they didn’t have the time to make them themselves. They wanted to know what cleaning products they could buy in stores that were as sustainable as the ones they could make at home.

So Lauren searched high and low. She began reading the label of every cleaning product and researching all of their properties, and then she learned a few things that changed her life forever:

There are over 85,000 industrial chemicals out there and a majority of them are not even tested for safety and on top of that cleaning product manufacturers are not legally required to list their ingredients on their packaging.

Lauren knew that was not okay. Consumers, unquestionably, have a right to know what is in the products they are using in their homes and on their bodies, so she decided to do something about it. She quit her job as Sustainability Manager at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, launched a Kickstarter campaign, and The Simply Co. was born.

Lauren is giving all of my listeners a 10% discount on their orders. Just go to www.simplyco.com and in the checkout use the code "greencleaning".  Thanks for all your support. Please feel free to share this coupon with your friends and family. Together we can change the world!
