Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Melissa Hartwig, co-creator of Whole30.

What is the Whole30?* (www.whole30.com)

Established by Dallas Hartwig and Melissa Hartwig (of Whole9) in April 2009, the Whole30® is an original nutritional program designed to change your life in 30 days. Think of it as a short-term nutritional reset, designed to help you put an end to unhealthy cravings and habits, restore a healthy metabolism, heal your digestive tract, and balance your immune system.

Certain food groups (like sugar, grains, dairy and legumes) could be having a negative impact on your health and fitness without you even realizing it. Are your energy levels inconsistent or non-existent? Do you have aches and pains that can’t be explained by over-use or injury? Are you having a hard time losing weight no matter how hard you try? Do you have some sort of condition (like skin issues, digestive ailments, seasonal allergies or fertility issues) that medication hasn’t helped? These symptoms may be directly related to the foods you eat—even the “healthy” stuff.

So how do you know if (and how) these foods are affecting you? Strip them from your diet completely. Cut out all the psychologically unhealthy, hormone-unbalancing, gut-disrupting, inflammatory food groups for a full 30 days. Let your body heal and recover from whatever effects those foods may be causing. Push the “reset” button with your metabolism, systemic inflammation, and the downstream effects of the food choices you’ve been making. Learn once and for all how the foods you’ve been eating are actually affecting your day to day life, and your long term health.

In this interview Melissa talks about the very FIRST Whole30 as well as gives us a sneak peak into her new book: Food Freedom Forever, which is what to do after you've finished your Whole30.  Her book won't be out until October, but if you want to get started, you can order her first book which is called, It Starts With Food.

After trying the challenge you may find that you want to continue eating "cleaner" and if that's the case you can get Melissa's Whole30 Cookbook.

Melissa also offered us a free shopping list, so that you know what to buy during your first "Whole30" visit to the grocery store. Shopping during the Whole30 can take a lot of time and research. You'll learn to read labels and find you'll have lots of questions. This shopping guide will make your first Whole30 a touch easier. Get your free shopping list here  Or you can text the words "download117" to the number 44222 and I'll send you the link to the free shopping list.

Have you done a Whole30 already?  I'm in the middle of my forth and I'm actually loving it. I have dealt with inflammation in my lower back for years and now that I'm eating cleaner, I'm feeling great. I do notice that when I'm not on the program, and eat something with gluten or sugar, I tend to get a flair up. Eating cleaner has changed my life and my body. Doing a Whole30 is not hard. As Melissa says "It is not hard. Don’t you dare tell us this is hard. Beating cancer is hard. Birthing a baby is hard. Losing a parent is hard. Drinking your coffee black. Is. Not. Hard. You’ve done harder things than this, and you have no excuse not to complete the program as written. It’s only thirty days, and it’s for the most important health cause on earth – the only physical body you will ever have in this lifetime."

What you will find out about doing the Whole30 Challenge? It really does start with food.

You can find out more about the Whole30 at: www.whole30.com

Have you ever heard of "oil pulling"?  This is a simple yet very effective way to detox your mouth and your body. By simply putting a teaspoon of olive oil in your mouth and swishing for 1-2 minutes you can see immediate results.  The olive oil pulls toxins out of your mouth and tongue and leaves your with whiter teeth and fresher breath.

Make sure you are using an organic olive oil. Remember, everything you put in your mouth goes straight into your blood stream so you want to use a pure, organic olive oil.

I interviewed Allison, from Bragg's Live Foods in this short interview.  After interviewing Patrica Bragg, her assistant, Allison came on and I recorded her experiences with oil pulling. Allison is very knowledgeable and I know you will enjoy her comments about using Bragg's olive oil for everything from a moisturizer to an ear cleaner.

Bragg's Live Foods is giving you a free sample of their organic olive oil if you click the link below and fill out the order form. You do need to enter a credit card, but it's just to validate yourhttp://www.maidbrigade.com shipping address. There will be no charges entered to your card. This sample is absolutely FREE!
